Empowering Tomorrow: A Weekend of Inspiration with Mombasa’s Youths

January has been an incredibly busy month here in Kenya. This past weekend, I had the privilege of spending time with 22 young people from various parts of Mombasa. The youngest was 18 and the oldest 22. We sat together and had meaningful discussions about entrepreneurship and technology, exploring the opportunities available to them.

Most of these young men and women have finished high school but are not currently engaged in any activities. It was a joy to spend time with them, laughing and chatting informally about their aspirations. The atmosphere was relaxed and engaging, with everyone sharing their thoughts and asking insightful questions. Two young men were particularly interested in programming, and we discussed how they could start their journey.

We also formed a WhatsApp group, and I was pleasantly surprised by their active participation. Every day, we’ve been discussing various projects and ideas. I assigned them a SWOT analysis exercise, and their enthusiasm has been remarkable. Even when encouraged to use Swahili, they remained highly engaged and eager to learn.

This experience has shown me their hunger for knowledge and has inspired me to plan a more intensive program to support them further. Our journey continues online, and I’m excited to see where this path leads. These young people have shown a genuine eagerness to learn and are ready to make a difference in their communities.
